The Fianna Fáil politician Jack Lynch (1917-1999) was born in Shandon, Cork. He went to school in the North Mon and was by all accounts a great sportsman originally playing with Glen Rovers in Blackpool, Cork. Lynch loved sport and would credit it with teaching him how to be part of a team and how to cope with victory and defeat. He worked as parliamentary secretary for Eamon de Valera and succeeded Sean Lemass in 1966. Lynch would go on to serve as Taoiseach from 1966 to 1973 and 1977 to 1979. Macdougald, her hair gathered in an elegant chignon bun, is wearing a sash marked Miss Harp Ireland across her gingham knee-length dress. Suzanne Macdougald (1945-) was a celebrated Irish model during the 1960s and 1970s. Fashion photography was just coming into focus and she was one of a small cohort of models, including Ann Davis, Adrienne Ring, and Grace O’Shaughnessy, that would become well-known during this time working for the designers Ib Jorgensen and Sybil Connolly. Behind them their fellow diners, seated at tables decorated with candelabra, are busy eating at laden tables. Vida Breen (née Daly), wearing a white blouse over a chevron-patterned skirt, is turned to her companion, listening as he talks. She was the wife of the festival director, Dermot Breen, who died unexpectedly in 1978. Vida died almost forty years later in 2017.
