She is wearing a full skirted three-quarter length off-the-shoulder dress (that has being marked as 'famous dress' on the back of similar photos of her in the archive). Koscina (1933-1994) had an extensive filmography including parts in mostly Italian genre movies including The Railroad Man (Pietro Germi, 1956) which was shown at the Cork Film Festival in 1956. Koscina acted for Hollywood-produced movies on a few occasions including alongside Paul Newman in The Secret War of Harry Frigg (Jack Smight, 1968) and with Rock Hudson in Hornets' Nest (Franco Cirino, 1970). Her final film appearance was in Kim Novak is on the Phone (Riki Roseo, 1994) before she died later that year from breast cancer. Anna Neagle was the stage name of Dame Florence Marjorie Wilcox, DBE. She was a popular actor during the 1930s-1950s, best known for her many historical characters including Nell Gwyn in Nell Gwyn (Herbert Wilcox, 1934) and Let's Make Up (Herbert Wilcox, 1954). She is recorded in the Guinness Book of Records for her 2,062 consecutive performances in the stage play Charlie Girl which ran from 1965 to 1971. Neagle was awarded the CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) in 1952 for her services to drama so would have been Lady Anna Neagle during her visit to Cork. She appears to be walking carefully down the stone steps of the steep spiral stairwell of the Castle. She is wearing an elegant coat adorned with a fur stole around her lower arms. In the background, we can see foliage through a small medieval window with metal bars. Swanson (1932-2011) was a Scottish actor who featured in cinema as a contract player for the Rank Organisation, for a brief period during the 1950s, before she retired from acting on marriage to Viscount Ednam and becoming Lady Dudley. She has an extensive filmography for this period including Moulin Rouge (John Huston, 1952), A Town like Alice (Jack Lee, 1956), and The Spanish Gardener (Philip Leacock, 1956) opposite Dirk Bogarde. She is dressed in an elaborate fur-trimmed coat and evening dress and is photographed smiling to her right. An usher is holding a large umbrella over her as she leaves the car and we can see the festival director Dermot Breen just behind the usher. Crowds gather behind the car as far as the eye can see right up to the limestone facade of the Cash & Co. department store at the junction of Patrick Street and Maylor Street. The origins of the Cash & Co department store began with a Mr Todd who opened a shop at this site known variously as Todds, or Carmichael and Company. It came to be known by locals as Cash's in 1877 when it became a private company with the official name of Cash and Company Limited. It was destroyed by fire, along with its neighbours on Patrick Street including Roches Stores, during the deliberate burning of Cork by Auxiliaries on the nights of 11 and 12 December 1920. A new store was built on the same site using limestone from Little Island, Cork. It has changed hands a few times since then until its sale to Brown Thomas and Company Limited in 1991 after which it is now named. Jack Lynch, a Fianna Fail politician who would serve as Taoiseach from 1966 to 1973 and 1977 to 1979, is smiling at Markus who is gesturing as she speaks. The group also includes Augustine (Gus) Healy, a Fianna Fail politician, who served as Lord Mayor of Cork from 1964 to 1965 and 1975 to 1976. He is standing on the lower right of Markus who is dressed in a light-coloured fur-trimmed evening gown. Winnie Markus was born in 1921 and moved to Germany, via Prague and Vienna, when she was sixteen. She started her acting career on the stage before her first film role in 1939 with A Mother's Love (Gustav Ucicky, 1939). Markus would follow this with leading roles in films of all genres from the war through to the post-war period. In 1959 she retired from film and would only appear in television and theatre appearances until her death in 2002 from pneumonia. This might be the Irish actor Dublin-born Kathleen Ryan (1922-1985) who starred in the gritty film noir Odd Man Out (Carol Reed, 1947) opposite James Mason. Ryan was the subject of one of Lous le Brocquy's most striking portraits Girl in White (1941), which hangs in the National Museum of Northern Ireland. Tony Wright (1925-1986) was an English actor and Rank Organisation contract player for some years. He was known for his leading-men roles including Seven Thunders (Hugo Fregonese, 1957), The Spaniard's Curse (Ralph Kemplen, 1958) during the fifties. Wright was married to the English film actor Jean Munroe (1934-1972) for three years (1956-1959); she starred in Darby O'Gill and the Little People (Robert Stevenson, 1959) and The Day the Earth Caught Fire (Val Guest, 1961).
