This is a black and white photo of Elaine Stephens on stage with a Disney representative. He is caught off guard by the camera and looks towards it while Stephens, in a long patterned dress, looks down at her papers. Behind them the somewhat wrinkled curtains of the stage shimmer in the lights of the venue. <br /><br />Elaine Stevens is a Cork Theatre stalwart who performed with the Everyman in the Little Theatre in Castle Street, at Father Matthew Hall, and at the Palace in Cork. She was a member of the board of the Everyman into her late eighties and her contribution to Cork theatre was immense.

An account of the resource
This black and white photo shows the festival director Dermot Breen sitting alongside Tom Nicholas. Breen is in full flight, arm outstretched, while Nicholas leans forward, glass in hand, smiling for the camera. Nicholas was a founding member of the London Friends of Cork and often hosted events at the Martini Terrace in London for the festival. The 1980 film festival programme notes that this group of London-based film people raised thousands of pounds to help the development of the Cork festival. Nicholas went on to become Managing Director of Columbia-EMI-Warner Distributors. <br /><br />Behind Breen and Nicholas, in a light-coloured suit, we notice the Cork businessman and festival committee member, Dick Beamish. Around them, we sense the crowded room, decorated with Harp Lager signage of the festival sponsors, whose name also adorns the drink coasters that litter the table beside them.

An account of the resource
The front of the 2013 festival programme is a graphic design of hexagons against a white background. The hexagons extend across the whole page and are coloured in various hues of green, yellow, blue, and red. The festival information text is placed at the centre of the programme in varying colours similar to the colouring of the hexagons.
The back cover is an advertisement page for Culturefox. The Culturefox logo is dominant with advertisement text underneath the image of a smiling fox – brown with white markings – and the swirl of a tail. The logo for the arts council is at the lower left of the page. The programme is a soft paper-bound programme measuring 16.5cm x 24.5cm. The spine is staple-bound and it has 94 numbered pages.

The 1984 festival programme is a slim off-white programme with no image on its cover. Text in bold blue art deco font crosses the programme diagonally. The back cover is off-white with no text or image. <br /><br />The 1984 programme is a soft card-bound programme measuring 9.5cm x 21cm. The bind is stapled and it has 64 numbered pages with minor discolouration. The 1985 ‘Cork 800’ celebrations are introduced at the back of the programme.

An account of the resource
The original 1984 programme is a soft card-bound issue measuring 9.5cm x 21cm. The bind is stapled and it has 64 numbered pages. <br /><br />We note the title: <em>Cork Festival of Film </em>which was introduced at the 1982 festival to reflect the limited programming due to financial difficulties. Film listings include <em>Pigs</em> (Thaddeus O’Sullivan, 1984); <em>Looking for Dev</em> (Gerry Sandford and Stephen Ryan, 1984); <em>Samuel Beckett – Silence to Silence</em> (Sean O Mordha, 1984); and <em>Man of Aran</em> (Robert J Flaherty, 1934). Since 1984 was the centenary of the birth of Robert Flaherty and the fiftieth anniversary of the first screening of <em>Man of Aran</em>, a lecture was given that year in his honour (p.15). We note the Australian film <em>Constance</em> (Bruce Morrison, 1984) starring Shane Briant. Briant was a visitor to the festival in the early seventies and some of his images can be found in the archive. A short article about the forthcoming Cork 800 celebrations can be found at the back of the programme.

<p>The original 1982 Festival of Film programme is a slim soft card-bound issue measuring 20.5cm x 10cm. The bind is stapled and it has 24 numbered pages. The title <em>Festival of Film</em> was introduced to reflect the limited programming due to financial difficulties. <br /><br />The pdf version includes an introduction by directors Robin O’Sullivan and Ronnie Saunders where they note that it was "not appropriate to talk of the 27th Cork Film Festival" that year. Festival listings include <em>Angel</em> (Neil Jordan, 1982) starring Stephen Rae and Marie Keane; <em>The Outcasts</em> (Robert Wynne-Simmons, 1982) starring Mary Ryan, Mick Lally and Cyril Cusack; and <em>Fitzcarraldo </em>(Werner Herzog, 1982) which won its director Best Director at that year’s Cannes Film Festival. The closing film was <em>My Favourite Year</em> (Richard Benjamin, 1982) starring Peter O’Toole who came to the festival in its early years.</p>

An account of the resource
The original 1983 Festival of Film programme is plain white with black text across its front. The rear of the programme is blank. The programme is a slim soft card-bound issue measuring 21cm x 10cm. The bind is stapled and it has 40 numbered pages. We note the title - <em>Festival of Film</em> - which was introduced in 1982 to reflect limited programming due to financial difficulties at the time.<br /><br />The pdf version includes an introduction by directors Robin O’Sullivan and Ronnie Saunders where they reference the clearing of financial debts and the support of the Irish Film Board. Festival listings include Edna O’Brien’s <em>The Country Girls</em> (Desmond Davis, 1983) with Sam Neil, Maeve Germaine, and Nail Tóibín; and <em>At The Cinema Palace</em> (Donald Taylor Black, 1983) – a tribute to the theatre impresario, actor, film critic, and archivist Liam O’Leary. We note Fassbinder’s final ground-breaking film <em>Querelle</em> (Rainer Fassbinder, 1982) came to Cork in 1982 via the London Film Festival.

Description
An account of the resource
The 2018 festival programme cover has a green and blue colour scheme with an emerald-green stripe along the book spine. To the right of the green stripe, there is a blue-themed lightly pixelated image of a partially visible face with just the right eye showing. The eye is looking up through dense eyelashes towards the upper left corner of the programme. The Cork Film Festival logo of a three-masted sailing ship sits at the bottom left of the programme cover next to the number 63, which is the edition of the 2018 festival. The rear of the programme, also coloured in green, has the same logo at its centre.
The 2018 programme is a soft glue-bound programme with 133 numbered pages.
