An account of the resource
The original 1980 programme is a slim soft card-bound issue measuring 26.5cm x 11cm. The bind is stapled and it has 82 numbered pages. <br /><br />The pdf version includes profiles of festival jury members Michael O’Herlihy (Ireland), Carmen Dillon (UK), Dagmar Hirtz (Germany), Patrick Carey (Ireland), Bert Haanstra (Netherlands), Joy Batchelor (UK), Jerzy Bossak (Poland), Tony Barry (Ireland) and Ronnie Saunders (Ireland). Programme listings include a programme of features and shorts for a Canadian film week which was staged with the collaboration of Jean Lefebvre, Canadian Secretary of the State Department. In addition, the Association of Independent Producers Ireland (AIP) curated an Irish Showcase of feature films and shorts including <em>Cry of the Mountain</em> (Eamon de Buitlear); <em>The Special Per Cent</em> (Jim Sherwin); <em>Revival – Pearse’s Concept of Ireland</em> (Louis Marcus);<em> So … Who Needs the Training</em> (Tiernan MacBride) with Niall Tóibín; and <em>Portrait of a Library</em> (Kieran Hickey) starring Cyril Cusack. The programme also details a John Boorman Season (p.76) and a selection of his films was shown that year. We note an article by Vida Breen, C<em>ork Film Festival – 25 years on</em> (pp.7-8), that references the origins of the festival and the London Friends of Cork whose work raised thousands of pounds for the festival. The brochure also includes a number of advertisements from local and national companies across all sectors of the business world.

The original 1984 programme is a soft card-bound issue measuring 9.5cm x 21cm. The bind is stapled and it has 64 numbered pages. <br /><br />We note the title: <em>Cork Festival of Film </em>which was introduced at the 1982 festival to reflect the limited programming due to financial difficulties. Film listings include <em>Pigs</em> (Thaddeus O’Sullivan, 1984); <em>Looking for Dev</em> (Gerry Sandford and Stephen Ryan, 1984); <em>Samuel Beckett – Silence to Silence</em> (Sean O Mordha, 1984); and <em>Man of Aran</em> (Robert J Flaherty, 1934). Since 1984 was the centenary of the birth of Robert Flaherty and the fiftieth anniversary of the first screening of <em>Man of Aran</em>, a lecture was given that year in his honour (p.15). We note the Australian film <em>Constance</em> (Bruce Morrison, 1984) starring Shane Briant. Briant was a visitor to the festival in the early seventies and some of his images can be found in the archive. A short article about the forthcoming Cork 800 celebrations can be found at the back of the programme.

The bind is stapled and it has 56 numbered pages. <br /><br />The pdf of the 1985 programme opens with a tribute to Sir Richard Attenborough and a selection of his films were shown that year. The programme also notes that a special feature of the 1985 festival was the number of films made by women; the list includes <em>Broken Mirrors</em> (Marleen Gorris, 1984), <em>Da Capo</em> (Pirjo Honkasalo and Pekka Lehto, 1985), <em>Dust</em> (Marion Hansel, 1985), <em>Fran</em> (Glenda Hambly, 1985), <em>Paperbird</em> (Anja Breien, 1984), <em>A Singular Woman</em> (Gillian Coote, 1985), and <em>Eugene O’Neil: A Glory of Ghosts</em> (Perry Miller Adato, 1985). A seminar on Women and Film was held that October, organised by Pat Murphy, Trish McAdam and Jane Gogan. The close of the programme acknowledges the sponsorship of Ford of Ireland which allowed the festival to mount its tribute to Sir Richard Attenborough that year.

<p>The original 1982 Festival of Film programme is a slim soft card-bound issue measuring 20.5cm x 10cm. The bind is stapled and it has 24 numbered pages. The title <em>Festival of Film</em> was introduced to reflect the limited programming due to financial difficulties. <br /><br />The pdf version includes an introduction by directors Robin O’Sullivan and Ronnie Saunders where they note that it was "not appropriate to talk of the 27th Cork Film Festival" that year. Festival listings include <em>Angel</em> (Neil Jordan, 1982) starring Stephen Rae and Marie Keane; <em>The Outcasts</em> (Robert Wynne-Simmons, 1982) starring Mary Ryan, Mick Lally and Cyril Cusack; and <em>Fitzcarraldo </em>(Werner Herzog, 1982) which won its director Best Director at that year’s Cannes Film Festival. The closing film was <em>My Favourite Year</em> (Richard Benjamin, 1982) starring Peter O’Toole who came to the festival in its early years.</p>

We note the title - <em>Festival of Film</em> - which was introduced in 1982 to reflect limited programming due to financial difficulties at the time.<br /><br />The pdf version includes an introduction by directors Robin O’Sullivan and Ronnie Saunders where they reference the clearing of financial debts and the support of the Irish Film Board. Festival listings include Edna O’Brien’s <em>The Country Girls</em> (Desmond Davis, 1983) with Sam Neil, Maeve Germaine, and Nail Tóibín; and <em>At The Cinema Palace</em> (Donald Taylor Black, 1983) – a tribute to the theatre impresario, actor, film critic, and archivist Liam O’Leary. We note Fassbinder’s final ground-breaking film <em>Querelle</em> (Rainer Fassbinder, 1982) came to Cork in 1982 via the London Film Festival.

This is a souvenir programme for <em>Tóstal Corcaí</em> – the Festival of Cork, 1956. The original programme is a soft card-bound issue measuring 18.5cm x 24cm with 68 numbered pages. <br /><br />The pdf version includes a welcome from Lord Mayor Patrick McGrath. Articles include <em>Cork International Film Festival </em>(pp.5-11); <em>The Cork International Choral Festival</em> by S.N. (pp.15-23); <em>An t-Oideachas i gCorcaigh</em> by Laoise Ní Dhubhgáin (pp.25-29); <em>Industry in Cork</em> by Stephen Coughlan (pp.45-51); <em>Songs and Ballads of Cork</em> by Patrick O'Connor (pp.57-67). <br /><br />As well as programme listings the issue also includes a large number of black and white images including Alderman Patrick McGrath; Ukrainian & Indonesian dancers (who took part in the 1955 Choral festival); choirs from Italy and the Cork Municipal School of Music; images from Cork including Blarney Castle, University College Cork, City Hall, River Lee, Patrick's Hill & Bridge, South Gate Bridge, South Mall; Churches including St Anne's Shandon, St Finbarr's Cathedral, Holy Trinity Church, Honan Chapel, Christ King Church; Fitzgerald Park and the Courthouse on the Western Road. There are a large number of advertisements for local and national businesses including former Cork-based businesses including Ford, Sunbeam Wolsey for stretch nylons, the Cork-Fishguard sailing route, and the Dunlop factory which used to be based on the Lower Glanmire Road in Cork.

This is a cast bronze crescent-shaped award in gold and green hues. The base, measuring 17.5cm x 8cm, is engraved: <em>Winner Best Black & White Short Film, Murphy's 43rd Cork Film Festival 1998</em>. The back of the base is signed with the initial 'B' - the signature of the contemporary Irish sculptor Sandra Bell.

An account of the resource
Since its establishment in 1956, the festival has awarded the St Finbarr statuette to its winners. Designed by the Cork-born sculptor Seamus Murphy, the bronze-coloured representation of the saint is 31cm high including the base. The base in this image is faintly inscribed on its sides with a Celtic harp and the Cork coat of arms, along with the date of the festival. This award is inscribed <em>2009 Seamus Murphy, Naom Fionnbarra</em>. The inscription across the base reads <em>Cork International Film Festival Trophy by Seamus Murphy RHA</em>. <br /><br />The 1965 festival programme notes, in an article by Conor Sweeney, that the awards were used from the very beginning of the festival and that the silver and bronze awards were “lined up on Dermot’s desk”. Dermot Breen was the founder of the film festival and was its director from its inception in 1956 until his untimely death in 1978.

This small cast bronze trophy is 25cm tall and depicts the organic form of a figure, with its right arm raised to its eye as it looks out through a single-lens binocular. The unsigned statue is inscribed <em>Cork Film Festival 2002</em> along its spine. We note that the 2002 festival programme attributes trophy design that year to the Irish sculptor Liz Morrissey.
