The bind is stapled and it has 84 numbered pages. There is minor wear & tear on the cover which is coming away from the rust-damaged staples. The 1965 pdf version includes profiles of Jury president Romanian writer Minhea Gheorghiu (1919-2011), Italian screenwriter Sergio Amidei (1904-1981), Hugues Marie Joseph de Place, German producer Ernst Krüger (1898-1995), and film critic Fr John C Kelly. Programme listings include a listing for Dr Hiob Praetorius (Kurt Hoffman, 1965) starring Heinz Rühmann who came to the festival that year. Irish productions, Saoire Ar Uisce (Holidays on Water) and Peictiuiri Chun Pleisiuir (Pictures for Pleasure), both directed by Colm ó Laoghaire, and with a commentary by Niall Tóibín, and Rhapsody of a River directed by Louis Marcus, with music by Seán Ó Riada, are listed this year. The uncredited photo was taken in Hollywood, USA, and was found among the archive papers. We note that a tribute programme of Stanely Kramer's work was introduced by Professor Robert Gessner at the Cork festival in 1966. Gessner chose six of Kramer's films for the festival and wrote an article for that year's programme. Kramer (1913-2001) was a renowned Oscar-winning film director and producer. In general, he made films that tried to address social issues such as racism, greed, and war. Kramer has an extensive filmography which includes The Defiant Ones (1958), Inherit the Wind (1960), Judgment at Nuremberg (1961) and the comedy film It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963) starring Spencer Tracy and Mickey Rooney. In this picture, Kramer is being presented the award by Katherine Hepburn (1907-2003) who had just finished Kramer’s Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner (1967) with Sidney Poitier and a frail Spencer Tracy, her partner of 26 years who would die soon after the film was made. Kramer also directed the German actor Heinz Rühmann in Ship of Fools (1965) starring Vivien Leigh in her final screen role. Rühmann came to the Cork festival and a couple of undated images of him can be seen in the festival archive. Since 2002 the Producers Guild of America awards the Stanley Kramer Award for films that "illuminate provocative social issues." In 2002 it was awarded to In America (2002) directed by the Irish playwright and director Jim Sheridan. Title A name given to the resource Heinz Rühmann and Dermot Breen Subject The topic of the resource Cork Film Festival, Dermot Breen, Heinz Rühmann, Germany Description An account of the resource These black and white photos are of the German film actor Heinrich (Heinz) Rühmann and the film festival director Dermot Breen.  Heinz Rühmann, standing on the left in these photos, was born in 1902. He was a prolific German film and television actor who acted in over 100 films in his lifetime and is considered a film legend for his contribution to the German film industry. Rühmann managed to court all sectors of German society including the Third Reich, where seemingly he was a favourite of Adolf Hitler and Joseph Goebbels, as well as the diarist Ann Frank, who had his picture pinned on the wall of her hiding place, where it still hangs on display today. Rühman's filmography includes Er Kannes Nicht Lassen (Alex von Ambesser, 1962), based on the Father Brown stories by GK Chesterton, and the Hollywood-produced Ship of Fools (Stanley Kramer, 1965) with Vivien Leigh and Lee Marvin. His final film role was as Konrad in Faraway, So Close (1993) directed by Wim Wenders and starring Peter Falk and Nastassja Kinski. Rühmann died in 1994 and was posthumously awarded the 'Goldene Kamera' in 1995 for his contribution to German cinema. Title A name given to the resource Dermot Breen, Donal Crosbie, John Grierson and Vasgen Badal Subject The topic of the resource Cork Film Festival, Dermot Breen, Donal Crosbie, John Grierson, Vasgen Badal Description An account of the resource This is a black and white photo, marked 1958, of Dermot Breen, Donal Crosbie, John Grierson and the Iranian-German film producer Vasgen Badal sitting together at a table in conversation. The festival director Dermot Breen, with his back to us, is leaning on the table with his right arm, listening to Crosbie and Badal. Grierson, with his distinctive dark-framed glasses, sits at the rear of the group drawing deeply on his cigarette. They are all wearing festival pins on the left lapels of their jackets and have papers strewn on the table before them, along with empty glasses and an ash-filled ashtray. Vasgen Badal was born in 1891, in Tehran, and little is known about him. He was based in Germany and produced a series of films starring popular screen stars including Magda Schneider and Heinz Rühmann who also came to the Cork Film Festival. In 1958 Badal was presented with a statuette of St. Finbarr by Jack Lynch for the film Dreamroad of the World (Hans Domnick, 1958) under his film company 'Badal-Filmproduktion'. He produced a number of films in the thirties and forties including a Nazi propaganda film Roter Nebel (UA, 1941) which was released after the German attack on the USSR in June 1941. Vasgen Badal died in 1959 - a year after this photo was taken. As so little is known about him we are fortunate to have images of him in the archive.  John Grierson was a Scottish documentary maker who coined the term 'documentary' in a review of Robert Flaherty's Moana (1926). Grierson founded the National Film Board of Canada (NFBC) in 1939 and worked there until his resignation in 1945. He lectured at Carleton and McGill University and his lectures at McGill University would attract up to seven hundred students for his classes. In his time Grierson sat on many film festival juries including Cannes, Venice, and Oberhausen; he was jury president in Cork in 1958 when this picture was taken. Grierson died in 1972 and was cremated and his urn, along with that of his brother who had died the previous year, was placed in the sea off the Old Head in Kinsale, County Cork. The now-prestigious Grierson Award, set up in 1972 by the Grierson Trust and UK Film Council, commemorate his life and contribution to documentary film and is awarded annually.
