It is a detail from The Golden Gate Bridge and depicts a couple on, or near, the red-orange steel struts of the bridge. Wearing a white shirt, with his sleeves rolled up, the man appears to be carrying the woman towards a car. Mustard-yellow clouds swirl against an azure-blue sky in the background. The rich oppressive colours of the scene reflecting the drama being played out on the bridge. The back cover is an advertisement for 'Corona Extra Beer' who are the main sponsors of the festival. The image of an ice-cold bottle of Corona Extra beer – with beads of condensation on its face and a wedge of lime inserted in the neck – dominates the length of the black-green coloured page. It is a detail from his painting Metropolis. The picture, which wraps around the spine of the programme, shows a cinema scene with the heads of the audience looking up towards a large screen that fills the page. The lush interior of the Savoy cinema in Cork is referenced by the golden sheen of the bannister and the rich red-gold colours of the furnishings. A figure is standing up – facing towards us – lighting a cigarette. The screen image fills the page – it depicts a female figure lying prostrate, eyes shut, and wired up to a technology that we are not familiar with. We recognise the scene from the 1927 science-fiction drama Metropolis directed by Fritz Lang. The back cover is a dark grey colour. A male figure, outlined in white, and reminiscent of the Russian workers' art movement style, appears to be running whilst holding up a large red flag in his left hand.
