The photos are undated, but we might suggest they are from the late 1980s/early 1990s. We include the second photo of an unidentified person for its similarity to the first photo. It shows a festival colleague sitting in the same white-washed festival office as Hannigan, with its fern-like plant on the office cabinet and a poster of the German short Tour d'Amour (Veit El-Mer, 1989) which helps us date this image. The first photo shows Hannigan, mug in hand, working at his office desk under the painted cladding of the vaulted ceiling. Cork-born Hannigan had a keen interest in film since his time at University College Cork (UCC) as a member of its film society. He is a former member of the Irish Film Board, the European Film Academy, and worked as a programmer for the Irish Film Institute in the 1990s. As co-director of the Triskel Arts Centre in the eighties, Hannigan worked with Theo Dorgan, and together they ran the film festival after the resignation of O'Sullivan in 1985. In 2013, following his departure from the film festival, Hannigan set up the <a href="https://indiecork.com/">IndieCork Film Festival</a> with festival programmer Úna Feely who had worked for the Cork festival for many years. Title A name given to the resource Portrait of Mick Hannigan Subject The topic of the resource Cork Film Festival, Mick Hannigan, Theo Dorgan, Úna Feely, Indie Film Festival, The Kino Description An account of the resource This is a publicity picture of Mick Hannigan who was the director of the Cork Film Festival from 1986 and its CEO from 2009 to 2013. The photo is undated, but we might suggest that it is from the 1980s when Hannigan, along with the poet Theo Dorgan, took the helm of the festival from Robin O’Sullivan who had managed it magnanimously after the unexpected death of festival founder Dermot Breen in 1978. Hannigan and Dorgan were a formidable team and consolidated the work of the festival bringing short and independent films to big venues such as the Cork Opera House. In 1996 Hannigan opened the first art house cinema in Cork – The Kino – located on Washington Street, at the top of the Western Road. Its first film was the low-key British film Brassed Off (Mark Herman, 1996) but it was Shine (Scott Hick, 1996) that sustained an eleven-week run ensuring the early success of the Kino. It ran both popular and art-house films and, in conjunction with the Cork Film Festival, brought retrospective and cultural films to Cork. However, plagued by financial concerns, the Kino closed its doors in 2009 and the building, once a cultural hub for the city, is now destined for redevelopment. Following his departure from the Cork Film Festival in 2013, Hannigan set up the Indie Cork Film Festival with festival programmer Úna Feely. Feely had worked for the Cork Film Festival since 1995 and was its festival programmer from 2001 until her departure, with Hannigan, in 2013. Hannigan and Feely also run Green Ray Film Agency which provides a broad range of services to filmmakers, festivals, and event organisers. The contact sheet comprises four strips each with five images of varying quality. The sheet, annotated with a blue marker, shows the festival team in varying poses at, and around, the office desk. The staff are not identified but we recognise Mick Hannigan, Kieran O’Connor, Charlie Hennessy, Úna Feely and Ruth Riddick.  We kept some examples of these contact sheets in the archive to show how photographers used positive prints from the negatives on a roll of film. This enabled the photographer to scan a series of thumbnail images to find the 'keepers' or the ones chosen to be enlarged.
