It shows the English actor Mollie Peters, sitting with the festival director Dermot Breen. They are seated side-by-side at a dinner table and Peters, wearing an emerald green dress, is shown in profile looking towards Breen. Breen, in a dinner suit, is leaning on the table, holding a cigarette in his yellowed fingers, and is half-turned towards Peters. In front of them, we note the detritus of dinner, together with glasses of wine. Mollie (sometimes spelled 'Molly') Peters was the stage name of Vivien Mollie Rudderham, an English actor best known for her role as Nurse Patricia Fearing, opposite Sean Connery's 007 in Thunderball (Terence Young, 1965). She was famously the first Bond girl to take off her clothes on-screen, earning the franchise its first X-rating. Several scenes were cut at the request of the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) for their risqué nature. Despite the success of Thunderball, Peters went on to have a short-lived film career, mainly due to contractual disagreements with her agent that forestalled her career. She is shown mid-bite, eating a sausage, smiling up towards the camera. Markus is dressed in a light-coloured sleeveless evening gown decorated with pearl-like beading. Two clips tie her blonde wavy hair back behind her ears. Flowers adorn the table in front of her. Winnie Markus was born in 1921 and moved to Germany, via Prague and Vienna, when she was sixteen. She started her acting career on the stage before accepting her first film role in 1939 with A Mother's Love (Gustav Ucicky, 1939). Markus would follow this with mostly leading roles in films of all genres from the war through to the post-war period. Her filmography includes Nothing but Trouble with Love (Thomas Engel, 1956), You are Twice Young (Helmut Weiss, 1958), What a Woman Dreams of in Spring (Erik Ode, 1959) and A Woman's Secret (1960). In the early sixties she retired from film and would only appear in television and theatre appearances until her death in 2002 from pneumonia. The thirteen guests, all of whom are smiling for the camera, sit on either side of a long table with the Fianna Fáil politician, Gus Healy, seated at its head. The wooden table is adorned with candlesticks and the guests are having soup and a roll served on patterned tableware.  The identified guest, Barbara Vance, was the wife of Douglas Vance, the manager of the Metropole Hotel located on MacCurtain Street, Cork. The Metropole was designed by the architect Arthur Hill and was opened in 1897. The hotel was originally run by Jimmy Musgrave, after whom Musgrave (now Irish Independent) Park was named for his dedication to Rugby. Until the mid-1950s it was known as Ireland's finest 'dry hotel' because the owners, the Musgraves, believed alcohol should not be served; the ban was lifted in 1956 at the behest of the manager Douglas Vance - just in time for the first Cork film festival. The hotel occupied the upper floors of the building with the ground floor and basement let out for retail. Two shops on either side of the entrance included the famous Turkish Delight sweet shop Hadji Bey run by Harutan Batmazian who came to Cork from Armenia in 1903. Lawson's Outfitters occupied the other unit and the name can still be seen on the hotel's façade today. Edward VII supposedly took high tea on the roof of the hotel when he visited Cork in 1903 for the Great Exhibition of Cork. Douglas Vance took over the running of Metropole Hotel in 1944 and made headlines around the world when he refused a request from the English actor Dawn Addams for a bath to be filled with milk, noting that the Cork people would be appalled since they found it hard to make ends meet at the time. Behind them their fellow diners, seated at tables decorated with candelabra, are busy eating at laden tables. Vida Breen (née Daly), wearing a white blouse over a chevron-patterned skirt, is turned to her companion, listening as he talks. She was the wife of the festival director, Dermot Breen, who died unexpectedly in 1978. Vida died almost forty years later in 2017. The Fianna Fáil politician Jack Lynch, seated across from Breen on the far right, is talking to his companion while resting his hands on the table. (We note that while this photo is dated 1960s, the three men in this picture are wearing brightly-patterned wide ties reminiscent of the 1970s, and not of the 1960s which favoured the narrow tie.) During the 1960s Jack Lynch worked as a parliamentary secretary for Eamon de Valera succeeding Sean Lemass in 1966. He would later serve as Taoiseach from 1966 to 1973 and 1977 to 1979. The Lord Mayor, wearing the chain of office, is standing at the round dinner table making a speech while Kevin Owens, on his right next to the festival director Dermot Breen, looks up to the camera as the picture is taken. A young child, arms crossed, also catches the flash of the camera. Geary, with his distinctive sideburns, sits on the far left and glances down at the table while O’Leary speaks. Seán O'Leary (1941-2006) was an Irish accountant, barrister, judge and Fine Gael politician who served as Lord Mayor of Cork in 1972-73. He studied at the University College Cork before being called to the Bar and was appointed a high court judge in 2003. Kevin Owens, sitting next to O'Leary in this picture, was born in Charleville; he was a well-known radio performer with radio programmes including Melody from Munster, Songs of the Night, and Music of the Nation. Owens worked with Bernard Geary and gained success with his solo performance in Geary’s Mass of Saint Finbarr on the Aisling record label. For many years Owens was a member of the Holy Cross Church Parish Choir in Charleville and in 1994 he received the Papal honor Benemerenti Medal from the then Bishop of Cloyne Dr John Magee for his services to the parish as a singer. His colleague at this table, Bernard Geary, was born in Gurranabraher, Cork in 1934. He studied music at the University College Cork during the 1950s and was encouraged in his compositions by Professor Aloys Fleischmann. Geary composed the Cork Film Festival-commissioned nine-movement Mass of Saint Finbarr for tenor, choir and organ in 1973 which was first performed at the Church of St. Francis in Cork, with Kevin Owens as a soloist and the Cork Film Festival Choir.
