Title

Tóstal Festival of Cork souvenir programme cover from 1956

Subject

Tóstal, Festival of Cork, 1956

Description

This is the maroon-coloured cover of the souvenir programme for Tóstal Corcaí – the Festival of Cork, 1956. The design on the front cover is a Celtic-stylised image of a saint holding a staff in his right hand. The image is flanked by two emblems – one of the harp and one of the coat of arms of Cork (a ship between two towers). The back cover image, also maroon, shows a bas-relief sculpture of a bearded man wearing a crown under the Irish wording: Cois Laoí na Sreabh - by the banks of the meandering Lee.

The programme is a soft card-bound issue measuring 18.5cm x 24cm. The bind is stapled and it has 68 numbered pages and is in good condition. Note: the programme contains a number of images of Cork and articles about Cork by Stephen Coughlan (Industry in Cork) and Patrick O’Connor (Songs and Ballads of Cork).
