Title
Cork International Film Festival programme cover from 2001
Subject
Cork Film Festival
Description
The front of the 2001 festival programme is black with a cinematic image at its centre of a turbulent blue-saturated sky. Clouds in varying shades of blue and white reach out across the screen of the sky and there are slight variations of distortion across the image as if viewed through a lens. Festival information is noted at the top and bottom of the programme in white and red font on the black background.
The back cover is an advertisement for Murphy’s Irish Stout (the main festival sponsors). The black and white photographic image is of a cinema screening where a young lady, dressed as a cinema usher, is selling refreshments to the audience. She is wearing a black dress with a white lace collar and a large satin bow to the front, together with a white frilled apron; she sports a bob-style hair cut clipped back with a smaller ribbon. Her usherette tray, hanging from a string around her neck, is laden with hyper-realised Murphy’s pint glasses, filled to the brim with black Murphy’s cream-topped stout.
The 2001 programme is a soft card-bound programme measuring 21cm x 29.5cm. The spine is glue-bound and it has 132 numbered pages. Note: An article on page 9, credited to the Festival Team 2001, speaks of the then-recent September 11th atrocity and how it affected cinema culture and how images themselves became problematic as a result.
