Cork Film Festival, Féile Scannán Ćorcaí', Dermot Breen, Poster

Description

This is a black and white photo of the film festival director Dermot Breen standing in front of a large montage-style poster advertising Féile Scannán ćorcaí (Cork Film Festival). Breen, standing to the right, is photographed looking up at the poster, which is decorated with small flags from around the world and takes up much of the wall space behind him.

The films advertised on the poster are from the 1950s and include, amongst others, Der Arzt von Stalingrad (The Doctor of Stalingrad) (Géza von Radványi, 1958) with Eva Bartok, The Old Man and The Sea (John Sturges, 1958), Sally's Irish Rogue (George Pollock, 1958) and the Norwegian film Ni Liv (Nine Lives) (Arne Skouen, 1957). Ni Liv was nominated for an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film in 1958, and in 1991 it was voted the greatest Norwegian film ever made by Norwegian television audiences.
