Description

This is a black and white photo of the festival director, Dermot Breen, with the vice-chairman of the festival committee, Richard (Dick) Beamish, and Tom Nicholas (centre) from the London Friends of Cork. They are attending a reception at the Martini Terrace in London, where details of the 20th Cork Film International Festival were announced (which allows us to date this photo 1975).

The Martini Terrace is an iconic landmark that sits on the top floor of the 18-storey New Zealand House located at the corner of Haymarket and the Pall Mall in London. It was built in 1959 and was, and is, a controversial building being the only skyscraper in this locality. The terrace was used for receptions and launches and has a view over Trafalgar Square. In 1992 it was listed Grade II cementing its place in the architectural history of London.
