Dermot Breen with the director Lionel Jeffries and others at the airport

Subject

Cork Film Festival, Airport, Donal Crosbie, Dermot Breen, Lionel Jeffries, Larry Doyle, Columbia Pictures

Description

This is a black and white photo of the festival director Dermot Breen with his colleague Donal Crosbie and festival attendees at the airport. Crosbie and Breen, on the left of the photo, are meeting festival delegates off the Aer Lingus flight behind them.

The photo identifies only the actor and director Lionel Jeffries and Larry Doyle. Lionel Jeffries (1926-2010), with his distinctive moustache, was an English actor, director and screenwriter. He served in the Second World War and was awarded the campaign medal Burma Star for his contribution to the war effort. Jeffries has an extensive filmography but is perhaps best known for The Railway Children (1970) which he wrote and directed. We note that while this photo is dated 1960s it might be 1964 as the Columbia-produced film The First Men in the Moon (Nathan Juran, 1964), starring Jeffries, was screened at the film festival that year on 17 September 1964. Columbia executives were also in attendance and might be included in this picture.
