Description
This is a black and white photo of Suzanne Macdougald posing with the festival founder Dermot Breen and an unidentified festival attendee. Macdougald, her hair gathered in a chignon bun, is wearing a sash marked Miss Harp Ireland across her gingham and lace-trimmed dress.
Suzanne Macdougald (1945-) was a celebrated Irish model during the 1960s and 1970s. She was one of a small cohort of models, including Ann Davis, Adrienne Ring, and Grace O’Shaughnessy, that would become well-known during this time working for the designers Ib Jorgensen and Sybil Connolly. The model Grace O’Shaughnessy also came to the Cork Film Festival during the 1960s. Macdougald worked as a hostess on RTÉ’s first quiz show Jackpot (1962-1965) assisting Terry Wogan who had replaced the original host Gay Byrne. She later set up the Lad Lane Gallery in Dublin before selling up and joining Solomon Gallery in Dublin’s Powerscourt Townhouse Centre, eventually becoming its owner and director. Macdougald retired from the gallery in 2013 which was then taken over by Tara Murphy. (‘Through a Lens Brightly’, irishtimes.com, 21.02.2009)
