Description
This is a black and white photo of the English actor, Dawn Addams, and a companion, arriving at the Savoy Cinema on Patrick Street, Cork in 1957. They are surrounded by a large crowd that extends back as far as the limestone façade of the Cash & Co. department store (now Brown Thomas) at the junction of Patrick Street and Maylor Street. The actors are dressed in three-quarter length frocks accessorised with a fur stole and a satin wrap together with white gloves and handbags. Behind them we can make out the festival director Dermot Breen with his head bowed down as he leaves the car which is parked kerb-side. A jostling crowd surrounds the car and actors, some reaching out towards them.
The photo was taken in 1957, the year that Dawn Addams played alongside Charlie Chaplin in the film A King in New York (Charlie Chaplin, 1957) which was screened at the festival that year.
