Title

Cork International Film Festival programme cover from 2011

Subject

Corona Cork Film Festival

Description

The cover of the 2011 festival programme shows a somewhat harried-looking man, walking in a determined fashion along, or off, an arched stone bridge. He is wearing a long beige mac-style coat over an orange jumper and blue jeans. His hair has short tight curls that reach the collar of his coat. He carries a large reel of film, from which a long strip of film reel unravels behind him. To his right – sitting on the parapet of what might be the triple-span South Gate Bridge – is a brown and white coloured Jack Russell dog who appears to be barking. Both dog and man are facing the same direction with intent. Behind them, we guess that the spires, rising up behind them to a star-flecked sky dotted with seagulls, are part of Saint Fin Barre's Cathedral. Dark clouds appear to threaten rainfall.

The back cover is an advertisement for Corona Extra beer (the main festival sponsors). The image is of a small audience in a cinema looking up at a large screen. On the screen, a male surfer is standing on his board after dropping from his wave which is extending out beyond the screen in a 3D fashion – the surf of the wave extends up to the ceiling of the cinema. Three ice-cold bottles of Corona Extra beer, with lime wedges in their necks, stand at the bottom left of the programme.
