Title
Cork International Film Festival programme cover from 2012
Subject
Cork Film Festival, Mark Cousins, Manifesto
Description
The 2012 festival programme cover is white with a line drawing of a couple sitting and looking out on to a view. Their back is to us and they lean into each other and face what might be a seascape. A large sun-like circle dominates the image as it appears to set (or rise) in the horizon – white gulls are scattered through the mustard-yellow sun as they fly across the sky. A quote is rendered in a pencil coloured font across the foot of the image and references the gulls as 'glorious birds'.
The back cover is an advertisement for Corona Extra beer (the main festival sponsors). The image is a blue drenched technicoloured picture of a group of young people in silhouette at the beach – some of whom are waving their arms. The blue sea extends out to the horizon and the full moon is omnipresent lying low. The atmosphere of the ‘full moon’ party is one of celebration. A large Corona Light bottle is to the left of the beach image. It extends the length of the page. The bottle is ice-cold with a wedge of lime in its neck. Advertisement text is placed at the foot of the page. A small image of a man carrying a large red flag – in the style of Soviet workers art – is placed above the footer text.
The 2012 programme is a soft card-bound programme measuring 17cm x 24.5cm. The spine is glue-bound and it has 96 numbered pages.
Note: In his welcome address Mick Hannigan draws our attention to Manifesto by Mark Cousins on the purpose of film festivals (p.12).
