Description

This is a black and white photograph dated 1965 of Frank Poole standing with an unidentified lady and the film festival director Dermot Breen. A bespectacled Poole, standing on the far left, is smiling broadly at the camera next to a dashing colleague (who might be Mrs Poole?) who is also smiling broadly whilst holding up her glass. To the right Dermot Breen gazes off to the distance.

Frank Poole was a managing director of Rank Film Productions, London during the 1960s until his retirement in the late 1970s. The Rank Organisation was a British film company whose contract players made regular appearances at the Cork Film Festival during the 1950s in particular. Films made by the Rank organisation during his era were dominated by the 'Carry On' film series as well as big-budget movies; investment steadily declined in the 1980s however before losses in the 1990s led to the eventual demise of what was once a powerful player in the film industry.
