Description

This is a black and white photo, dated 1972, of the actor Laurence Harvey in conversation with festival committee member Dick Beamish, and an unidentified colleague in a white dress accessorised with a festival ribbon. The small convivial group is turned towards each other smiling as they chat.

Laurence Harvey (1928-1973) died from cancer the year after this picture was taken. He was a Lithuanian-born English actor and director and has a prolific filmography. Around the time this image was taken he had starred in Escape to the Sun (Menahem Golan, 1972) and The Deep (Orson Welles, 1970) which was an unfinished film directed by Orson Welles. When Harvey died in 1973 it ended any chance of Welles finishing the picture.
