Description
This is a black and white photo of festival guests, taken on the grounds of Ashbourne House in Glounthaune, Cork. The festival director Dermot Breen is holding court while Lord Mayor Pearse Wyse and Tom Nicholas look on. Born in Cork, Pearse Wyse (1928-2009) was a Fianna Fáil politician who would serve as Lord Mayor of Cork in 1967 and again in 1974, when this picture was taken. Tom Nicholas on the right, with his hands clasped behind his back, was the founding member of the London Friends of Cork and raised thousands of pounds to help the development of the film festival.
