This is a black and white photo of President Patrick Hillery and his wife Maeve Hillery accompanied by Jim O’Brien. Hillery, wearing a dark suit and holding his trilby hat, is walking alongside O’Brien as they shake hands. His wife, Maeve Hillery, in a long dress accessorised with a short white fur jacket, holds a bouquet of flowers and is smiling as she too walks forward. Hillery (1923-2008) was a Fianna Fáil politician who served as the sixth President of Ireland from 1976 to 1990 following some time as Ireland's first European commissioner. The photo is dated 1970s and might be 1976 or 1977 as there is a similar picture of Hillery in the archive, wearing the same tie, talking to Seán French who served as Lord Mayor of Cork in the late seventies.
