Description

This is a black and white photo of the festival director Dermot Breen with the artist and journalist Frank Sanquest and the politician, and former Lord Mayor of Cork, Gus Healy.

Gus Healy, seated on the far left, was an Irish Fianna Fáil politician who would later serve Cork as Lord Mayor from 1964 to 1965 and 1975 to 1976. He is seated next to the artist Frank Sanquest, in half-rimmed spectacles and wearing his trade-mark dickie bow. Sanquest (1912-2008) was a Cork-born artist who worked for many years as resident set-designer for the Cork Opera House before it burnt down in 1954. He was on the board of the Southern Theatre Group with Dan Donovan and James N. Healy; they often toured with John B Keane plays, starring the Cork actor Michael Twomey who also came to the Cork Film Festival. From 1940 to 1987 Sanquest worked as the Arts Editor for the Cork Examiner and would attend festival press conferences for the paper.
