This is a signed black and white publicity photo of the Polish actor Eva Krzyżewska. The photo is signed in Polish and translated reads: To the caring host of the film festival, sincere greetings from Eva Krzyżewska. 1.II.1961.

Eva (Ewa) Krzyżewska (1939-2003) was born in Krakow, Poland. She was a leading actor during the late 1950s and early 1960s and her filmography includes the Polish drama film Ashes and Diamonds (Popiół i Diament) (Andrzej Wajda, 1958), All Souls Day (Tadeusz Konwicki, 1962), and Pharaoh (Jerzy Kawalerowicz, 1966). At the time of her death in Spain from a car crash, she had been working for the United Nations radio library in New York.

Andrzej Wajda, the director of Ashes and Diamonds, was famous for his war trilogy A Generation (1954), Kanal (1956), and Ashes and Diamonds. Wajda’s film Samson was shown at the 1961 film festival and his acclaimed film Ashes and Diamonds, starring Krzyżewska, was shown at the 1960 festival as part of a special tribute to post-war Polish films that year.
