Description
This is an undated black and white photo of the festival committee. The small group of six men pose for the camera smiling, on and around a staircase. While the men are unidentified we recognise Robin O’Sullivan and Gus Healy, second left on the staircase, from the archive. Healy was a Fianna Fáil politician who served Cork as Lord Mayor from 1964 to 1965 and 1975 to 1976. His presence in the festival archive goes as far back as the late 1950s when he appears in an image of the original Tóstal Council alongside the then Lord Mayor Patrick McGrath, and festival founder Dermot Breen. On Breen’s unexpected death in 1978 O’Sullivan, standing on the far right in this image in a dark suit and hand in pocket, took over and kept the festival going until Mick Hannigan and Theo Dorgan took up the cudgels in the mid-eighties.
