Description

This is a black and white photo of film festival committee member Dan Donovan standing in front of a microphone alongside a festival delegate identified as a 'Jamaican actor' at the rear of the photo.

Dan Donovan (1926-2008) was a founding member of Cork’s Everyman Theatre and Cork’s cultural legacy owes much to his passion and love of the arts. He was a board director of the Cork Choral Festival as well as the Cork Film Festival. It is possible that this picture was taken in the 1970s when the celebrated Jamaican playwright and film director Trevor Rhone came to Cork with his Jamaican colleagues. By then Rhone had released his successful film, co-written with Perry Henzell, The Harder They Come (Perry Henzell, 1972). His later film, Smile Orange (Rhone, 1975), went on the win a gold medal at the Cork Film Festival in 1975.
