In 2017 he starred in an award-winning documentary Feats of Modest Valour (Mia Mullarkey and Alice McDowell, 2017) about people living with Parkinson’s Disease which won a New York film festival award that year. Hickey passed away in May 2021 with tributes paid by President Michael D. Higgins.
