Title

Tóstal Festival of Cork souvenir programme cover from 1959

Subject

Tóstal Festival of Cork

Description

The 1959 Tóstal Corcaí/Festival of Cork souvenir programme is off-white. In the foreground, off centre, is a red Celtic-stylised image of a saint holding a staff in his right hand. The image is flanked by two emblems – one of the harp and one of the coat of arms of Cork (a ship between two towers). The back cover is plain off-white with no images. At the centre of the programme the designer and the printer are credited. The cost of the programme at 2/- is placed at the lower right corner.

The 1959 souvenir programme is a soft card-bound programme measuring 17cm x 24.5cm. The bind is stapled and it has 60 numbered pages. It is has some wear and tear on the cover – particularly around the staples on the spine and the upper left corner.  Notes: The programme contains a number of images and advertisements as well as articles about Cork by TF McNamara (A Changing Landscape), Stephen Coughlan (Ireland’s First Oil Refinery) and Sean Hendrick (International Film Festival of Cork).
