This is a black and white photo of festival delegates posing on the tarmac of the airport runway. The convivial group are not identified but we recognise some from the archive. On the right, wearing a dark suit accessorised with a large cross on a chain, the English actor Sinéad Cusack is turned towards the German actor Ferdy Mayne, in a houndstooth check suit and matching trilby. Festival committee member, Dick Beamish, in dark-rimmed glasses, stands front and centre.
On the far left we recognise the English actor Peter Cushing (1913-1994) who was best known for his roles as Baron Frankenstein and Doctor Van Helsing in the Hammer Productions horror films. Cushing also appeared as Tarkin, in Star Wars (1977) written and directed by George Lucas. Around the time of this picture, dated 1972, Cushing had appeared in a number of horror films including Fear in the Night (Jimmy Sangster, 1972) starring Joan Collins and Judy Geeson who also came to the Cork festival.
