Description

This is a black and white photo of the English actor Tony Wright pinning a corsage on the dress of a companion - identified at the back of the photo as 'Kathleen'. This might be the Irish actor Dublin-born Kathleen Ryan (1922-1985) who starred in the gritty film noir Odd Man Out (Carol Reed, 1947) opposite James Mason. Ryan was the subject of one of Lous le Brocquy's most striking portraits Girl in White (1941), which hangs in the National Museum of Northern Ireland.

Tony Wright (1925-1986) was an English actor and Rank Organisation contract player for some years. He was known for his leading-men roles including Seven Thunders (Hugo Fregonese, 1957), The Spaniard's Curse (Ralph Kemplen, 1958) during the fifties. Wright was married to the English film actor Jean Munroe (1934-1972) for three years (1956-1959); she starred in Darby O'Gill and the Little People (Robert Stevenson, 1959) and The Day the Earth Caught Fire (Val Guest, 1961).
