This is a black and white photo of the Czech-born German film actor Winnie Markus (1921-2002) and the Fianna Fáil politician Jack Lynch presenting her with an award. Markus, in a light-coloured evening gown decorated with pearl beads, is shown in profile accepting her award from Lynch who is in a dark suit. They are smiling and shaking hands as he passes her the award.
Jack Lynch (1917-1999) would go on to serve as Taoiseach from 1966 to 1973 and 1977 to 1979. At the time of this picture (marked as 1957) he served as Minister for Education and Minister for Gaeltacht Affairs.
